JU Glass Blowing Demo Series

Hello Glassblowers.  Dates for the Fall 2012 Glass Demo Series at Jacksonville University are finally here! All sections will take place between Labor Day and Halloween.

1)  Wednesday evenings, 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm, September 5 – October 24.
2)  Saturday mornings, 9:00 am – 12:00 noon, September 8 – October 27.
3)  Saturday afternoons, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm, September 8 – October 27.

Each 8-week section can accept only 12 participants – this limited space will fill fast, so email me to reserve your space(s).  Glassblowing involves teamwork, making it a great activity to explore with friends or family.

The Glass Demo Series is open to total beginners and returning students alike.  We cater to participants of all ages (minimum 12 years).  The cost is $400/participant.  Enrollment is first-come first-served, so be sure to respond early while spaces are still available.

When you email me to reserve your space(s), be clear about which section you would like to enroll in, and include the names and number of people you are enrolling (and ages of those under 18).  Returning students looking for a mega dose of glassblowing may register for both back-to-back Saturday sections.

Please spread the word!  Word of mouth is our only advertising so share this info with your friends and co-workers.  The Glass Demo Series is one of the best kept secrets in Jacksonville.

To register or get more information, send me an email.  I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,

Brian Frus

P.S. Feel free to contact me anytime for glass related stuff.  I answer all kinds of questions and often consult, create custom glass artwork as gifts or awards, design and make lighting, sculpture, and more.

Bit of a hold up…

Just before my last post, I fell at the studio and fractured my right elbow (specifically my radial head) and then… I got a really bad cold. Knocked me right out. But I’m feeling much better now (I think I’ll go for a walk! LOL). My daughter will be assisting me until I can use my right arm again to cut glass, etc. and the key chains are a perfect little project to keep me going until then. I’ll make a little video about them and post it when I can.

Keep calm and carry on. :)

Key chain tests

I am testing the wiring for the key chains for my Indiegogo project & Desert Bus for Hope.

The green has copper wire, which is easier to work with, but I will need to double up on the loop to make it sturdy enough for everyday use.

The nickel-chromium wire on the blue one is fine as is, but it’s stiffer when bending. I will try one more test firing with doubled copper wire to make sure my keychains will last!

(As a little bonus, the keychains have an alter-ego as a pendant)

Ophelia

A dear friend and artist left this message for me on my Indiegogo project page:

This is a major work of art for Helen Cowart. She is a studio neighbor of mine at the CoRK arts community and it is such a pleasure to watch her creative vision coming to form… in GLASS! I want to encourage others to support her quest to fund the equipment she needs!

Thank you, Susan!

This is the next image in the series. The next step is the watercolor pencils. Please make this project a reality!

More Needle Felting

A pig and a sheep. The pig already has a destination.

Indiegogo: Ophelia, a print & glass series.

Take a moment to check it out on Indiegogo and also share it with your friends.  All the tools are there.  Get perks, make a contribution, or simply follow updates.  If enough of us get behind it, we can make ‘Ophelia, a print & glass series’ happen.

Thank you!

More Lil’ C and Treasure Pots

More pictures of Lil’ C and her cousin. They were so excited to learn about glass and how to create with it.

Safety first when you are working with powdered frit.

What I supervised today:

We took these lovely little treasure pots and added a little something to the insides…

They come out of the kiln tomorrow. They will be SWEET!
