New Sushi Plates

The sushi plates and sauce dishes for Patti and Clint are ready! I’ll be mailing them out tomorrow.

I also ordered some new glass that will create some interesting results due to chemical interactions in the different colors. And, I finally ordered my frit to start playing with a design technique I am borrowing from Cynthia Morgan. I hope she doesn’t mind! Look for some cool stuff to be produced in the next couple of months.

Art Hunt!!

Lifted from Art In Strange Places:

So Yvonne Lozano, (you know her, she’s that really great artist that is involed in all kinds of cool projects) calls and says, “Have you heard about Patrick Skoff and what he is doing? We should all do this here in Jacksonville. It would be great to get the whole crowd involved.”

Well…. talk about Art In Strange Places, sounded like a terrific idea so here we go!

This is the story of how it started in Jacksonville

Details real soon!

Bowls!

Here is a couple of pictures of the bowl I made for my brother and sister-in-law for Christmas. There’s definitely more on the way. If you want a certain color, I will order the glass for you!

Something Special

We have something special going on at the Jacksonville Landing. And it’s not just the Off The Grid galleries (which are pretty awesome, if I do say so myself).

Last Friday, I was hangin’ with my friend Rachel. She had seen a friend of her’s shop on the other side from my gallery a couple of weeks ago and went to say “Hey.” Lina, of Lina M. Bath Boutique, came down to the gallery and we all talked for a bit and Rachel showed off her custom, hand-made guitars. I’d met her before when I purchased some of her soaps and candles to enhance the displays of multi-use plates I have at the gallery, but it’s nice to have a personal connection to make a new friendship even better. I shared a couple of soap dishes with Lina to take down to her place to sell.

I also like to visit with Bobby and Alyson at Aly Cats, since they create fused glass pieces as well as beautiful etched glass art.  I’ve found that one of the bartenders at Hooters is a mom, she’s smart and incredibly beautiful. Everytime I’ve been in the American Cafe the waiters/hosts I have met are equally friendly and interesting.

And all this doesn’t even touch the staff of the Landing itself. From Janice Lowe, the manager, to Marcella with security, they are all warm, friendly and willing to help. I could go on, but I think you understand what I am saying: the Landing isn’t special because of it’s location, and facilities, but because of the people and the businesses who are there.

It’s all part of creating something special: a collaborative network of people that makes all of us better, stronger, vibrant. And, frankly, I’m one lucky woman to be even a small part of what’s going on at the Landing.

Gallery Team

We gathered last night to do a little meet & greet for all the people who are and want to be involved in the gallery. Rachel, Amy, Linda, Sarah, Dee and I had a great time talking about the gallery, art, artists, life, gardens, horses and guitars. We were minus one, Donna, who had to teach an art class.

I loved all the ideas, suggestions and getting focused on making the gallery even better. Rachel was encouraged to take her luthier (guitar/stringed instrument making) skills to the “art side,” so look for a display of her beautiful hand-crafted guitars soon.

Rachel is an extraordinary person: speaks fluent Russian, plays the cello, guitar, bright, funny and quirky. And being an ex-Starbucks barista, makes a mean coffee. Add to all that her custom guitar making and you will see some very beautiful and unique instruments created.

Amy is a collector and appreciator of art. What drew her in was Donna Grasso’s equestrian art in December as she used to own a couple of horse farms (Hanoverians) and competed in dressage. She talked about her first pieces of art: an etching of a horse and a cast iron abstract horse coin bank.

Having all these varied experiences is an inspiration to me. How lucky am I to have such a fabulous team!

Feed the joy

In an effort to do more things that feed my soul, here are a couple of sketches drawn on polyester litho plates that I will print up soon. I need a few more items like news print and cotton wipes before I can start printing up a storm. They will be 2.5″ x 3.5″ cards.

More changes at the Gallery

I am very, very pleased to announce that the Jacksonville Weavers Guild will be coming to the Gallery. They will be bring in a working loom, doing demonstrations and hand-crafted merchandise.

We will be featuring them in March tying in with the Art Walk theme of “Sew-tactic.”

I will have another announcement very soon, regarding another artist. Yay!
